Reagent Press has several different imprints. Think of these as ways of getting your work published with us. Each imprint is different.

Our core imprint publishes original works. Typically, we publish books within 6 – 12 months after manuscript acceptance. Through our strong partnerships with global distributors and wholesales like Ingram, Baker & Taylor, The Brodart Company, Book Wholesalers Inc., Whittaker, and Follett Library Services, your book will be available for purchase in the US, UK, Canada and elsewhere.

Reagent Press Echo handles select reprinted books. We can bring your out-of-print book back to life.

Reagent Press Signature Editions handles select hardcover and collector's edition printings. If your book becomes one of our top-sellers, we may decide to publish a Signature edition of the book in hardcover to attract additional specialty sales from retailers and book buyers.

RP Audio publishes audio editions of our top-selling books. All of our audio books are digitally mastered and produced by professional voice actors.

Our imprints are strictly royalty-based. We offer small advances. We do not charge writers fees for publishing or marketing. Our books are published based on merit and sales potential.

We are one of the few publishers, small or large, to publish our books in print, digital, and audio with simultaneous distribution in the US, Canada, and UK. We are also one of the few publishers to work directly with foreign agents and publishers to sell rights to our books internationally, and we've been successful with our books in the international market.

Our publishing contract requests rights to books we publish in print, digital, audio, and other forms throughout the world. This allows us to publish your book in any form throughout the world and to license the book for translations into other languages, and is in keeping with how we do business.

Send Us Your Proposal

Submission Tip from Our Publisher

The #1 reason we reject submissions is the author's lack of understanding of independent small presses and our product line. If you don't love indies and you don't love our books, we're not the right publisher for you. -- Jeannie Kim

Now that you know about our imprints and what we are looking for, tell us about your work. Send us a letter, preferably by email, telling us what your book is about and who you are. Be brief, a few paragraphs is all we need. Tell us who you are, what your book is about and how you can help us market it. Please do not send us your manuscript until we ask for it. Please do not send attachments in your email or refer us to a web page.

Our review policy for queries is this: every query reviewed and carefully considered, every time. What this means is that we carefully review every query and discuss new ideas submitted by authors regularly. Because we review and carefully consider every query, the initial review process can take anywhere from several weeks to several months. If your idea meets our guidelines and is a work we're interested in, we'll respond to your query. We do not otherwise respond to queries or return SASEs.

Submission Tip from Our Publisher

The #2 reason we reject submissions is the author hasn't read our guidelines and hasn't taken the time to prepare the materials we request for submissions. -- Jeannie Kim

Our review policy for requested manuscripts is this: every manuscript read and carefully considered, every time. If we respond to your query, we'll next ask to see the completed manuscript and a detailed proposal, or a copy of the book to republish. Every requested manuscript is read from beginning to end by one or more of decision-makers on our staff. Because we give individual attention to every submitted manuscript and receive a high volume of submissions, reviewing your materials can take up to 6 months. We do not return any submitted materials or SASEs. We will contact you within 6 months if we have continued interest in your manuscript. We do not otherwise respond to manuscript submissions or return SASEs.

Why is this our policy? We prefer to focus on the materials authors submit to us. If you'd rather receive form-letter responses and check marks on your SASEs than have an actual person spend time carefully reading and reviewing your query/manuscript, we're not the right publisher for you. You'll do much better sending your query/manuscript to a large, conglomerate publisher where it is almost a certainty you'll get back a form-letter response or a check mark on your SASE.

Submission Tip from Our Publisher

The #3 reason we reject submissions is the author's insistence that we return materials when we clearly state that we do not return materials. We don't return materials because that would be a full time occupation for our review team. We'd much rather use our limited time and resources to read submissions. -- Jeannie Kim

As a final note, you must be computer savvy to work with us. We assume that you are, since you are reading this online. You also need to be able to correspond with us through email, submit your manuscript as Microsoft Word 2007 or later file, and read and print Adobe PDF files.

Okay! So now you're ready to send us your proposal. What are you waiting for? Click the mail icon below.

Submitting Your Book to Reagent Press: Our Guidelines for Full Book Submission

Reagent Press is looking for books that have been professionally edited and proofread and are ready to be published, including previously published books for which the author has worldwide publication rights. As we have received very few acceptable manuscripts in recent years, our preference at this time is to work with authors who are previously published (large press, small press, or otherwise) as well as authors with agents.

We are looking for finished books in the following categories:

Children's Picture Books / Fiction - We are looking for completed books with illustrations by author/illustrator teams or by an author who also is an illustrator. The biggest reason we reject picture books is because the books are submitted without illustrations.

Children's Fiction / Fantasy, Mythology, Contemporary - We are looking for completed books of 30,000 to 65,000 words in length. Any required illustrations must be already completed by author/illustrator. The biggest reason we reject children's fiction books is because the books aren't completed and polished prior to submission.

Young Adult / Fantasy, Contemporary, Science Fiction, Mystery - We are looking for completed books of 40,000 to 75,000 words in length. Any required illustrations must be already be completed by author/illustrator.

Adult / Fantasy, Contemporary, Science Fiction, Mystery - We are looking for completed books of 45,000 to 80,000 words in length. Any required illustrations must be already be completed by author/illustrator.

If we've requested your manuscript and you are serious about making a commitment to our growing small press for the next 5 to 10 years, please then submit the following:

*If your book was published or self-published previously, state this and enclose a copy of the printed book as well as digital copy on CD/DVD. Confirm in writing that you retain all rights to the book and any artwork you submit with the book. Add copies of any reviews and marketing materials created previously.

*Be sure to add any cover art, illustrations, or other artwork to the CD/DVD. Use editable format, such as .psd or .tif with layers. Confirm in writing that you retain all rights to the artwork.

Send your materials to:

Please keep in mind that we do not return any submitted materials or SASEs. We will contact you in 2 to 6 months if we have continued interest in your manuscript. Otherwise, we will not contact you.
